Question
Nowadays doctors prescribe medicine of that company that pays them. Is it morally and religiously acceptable? Is this income haram or halal?
Answer
It is not morally right for the doctors to accept gifts from such companies because their decision about a prescription can be influenced by this. Even if a doctor prescribes the medicine manufactured by that company when there is no other required medicine is available the intentions of the doctors become suspect and he can be held answerable by God. A God fearing doctor should never engage in this. When a doctor prescribes a medicine for a patient while he has two options before him and he prescribes the one that is expensive but no distinctive benefit he clearly violates all ethical and moral principles.
