Question
The Quran seems to hold that Jesus (sws) and Adam (sws) were created through a similar process. Does Adam, in the relevant verse, signify the whole mankind or only the first man?
Answer
The referred to verse of the Holy Qur’an reads:
Surely the case of Jesus is like the case of Adam. He created him out of dust, then he said to him, “Be’, and he was. (3:59)
God Almighty has only negated the views of the Christians. They believed Jesus to be son of God. The basis of their views was his miraculous birth. God says that he was given birth suspending the natural course. It was easy for God to do so. After all he created Adam without a father and mother. He could by all means create Jesus without a father. This was because he wanted to leave a sign of His power. It showed that God could do anything he wanted. It also responds to those who objected to the possibility of resurrection after death.
