Question
I would ask you a question to clear my doubts about an issue which has social and religious aspects. Can you tell me that what is the religious status of a marriage between Syed girl and a non Syed boy? Many people consider it a sin but I have not seen any ḥadīth on the issue. Or may be my know ledge is limited. Please clarify to me whether it is a social taboo or it has some religious background as well.
Thank you,
Aun Muhammad Abbas
Answer
There is absolutely no basis in religion to disallow marriage of Syed and non-Syed. In fact even the concept of calling someone Syed and considering him different from others has no basis in religion.
This is so baseless in Islam that I cannot even try to elaborate, because there is nothing to be elaborated. It is a clear innovation (Bid’ah) which not only should be avoided but also should be corrected.
