I want to know whether any of the precious stones have any spiritual significance or healing/remedial effects. Is it true that our Holy Prophet [pbuh] used to wear a ring with some stone, or he advised Hazrat Ali [rta], or any of his companions, to use one or another stone for auspicious effects?
Answer
There are no authentic and reliable reports about the benefits (spiritual or otherwise) of wearing gemstones. There are many fabricated ahadith in circulation. None of them is slightly reliable. The scholars have explained that fully. The majority, however, holds that except for gold all other things can be used as well. Some dislike it as it involves spendthriftiness and can make people show off, which is an obvious sin. We believe this view is strong.
