Question
If someone does not want to fast in the month of Ramadan (not for health reasons), then can one do that by paying in the form of money or otherwise?
Answer
We cannot leave fast for other than two reasons, disease and journey. In these cases we can leave the fast and complete the count afterwards. However, in the beginning the Qur’an allowed the people to leave fast and atone for missing a fast through specified method. It was also possible for the people who are travelling or are sick to give money or food against the left over fasts. Later on this permission was taken back and the believers were commanded to complete the count later on. The option to make up for the left over fast in the case of journey and sickness through charity is no more available. There is no question to extend the facility to the person who is fit and at home.
