Innovation

Question

What is the significance of performing an action not approved by the Holy Prophet (sws)?

Answer

Considering something a part of the religion at one’s own will is condemnable. A Muslim will be held accountable only for moral obligations or the actions declared by the holy prophet as parts of the religion. Actions and deeds of any other person cannot gain religious status. A person who calls some of his personal acts and deeds as part of the religion is an innovator. A believer who does not follow such innovations saves his religion.
