Regarding Marriage

Question

A man asked a religious scholar on TV about marrying a woman with whom he already had a relationship. The scholar forbade the marriage. He considered the woman unworthy of the man as she was already involved with him. Islam, in my view, promotes virtue instead of condemning people?

Answer

There are two aspects to this question, which need to be discussed separately. As Muslims, we have been commanded to be chaste. And chaste men and women have been ordered to seek spouses of the same attribute. This is the principle of marriage. Even if one has stumbled in life, then he/she should purify their souls through repentance and then marry.

Here the condition is different. Both the man and woman are guilty. It is sad and amusing to hear only the woman being held accountable. Both of them should repent, seek Allah’s forgiveness and then marry. This would grant them honour before Allah.
