Some Questions About Qisas

Question

I want to ask a very important question from you and in the lights of the answer I want to make my concept clear.

  1. What are the real commandments of ALLAH about revenge(BADLA)?
  2. What are the actual parameters Islam has given us as Muslims to take revenge?
  3. Does Islam allow us to take revenge from that person who gives so many harms to us?
  4. Is there any authentic ḥadīth and Qur’ānic verse present which allows us to take revenge?
Please give me a detailed answer, I will be very thankful to you for this favour.

Answer

What are the real commandments of ALLAH about revenge(BADLA)?

The closest concept to revenge in the Qur’ān is Qisās. Qisās refers to a punishment in which the criminal is treated in the same way as he himself had treated the victim while committing the crime (Qur’ān 2:178, 2:194, 5:45). According to the Qur’ān, maintaining the principle of Qisās brings life (here meaning a safe and healthy society) (2:179).

What are the actual parameters Islam has given us as Muslims to take revenge?

I need to make this absolutely clear that the authority of arranging for and carrying out Qisās (like any other authorities with regard to penal law) only belongs to the Muslim state. No individual or groups of people have any right to perform Qisās on their own and those who carry this out are punishable because of creating disorder in the land.
Apart from the above, Qisās should be accurate and fair. This means firstly, only the person who has committed the crime should be punished and secondly the nature and degree of punishment should not exceed the crime. Furthermore, the victim (or heirs of the victim) may forgive the criminal or may demand payment of money (Diyah) instead of the act of Qisās (Qur’ān, 2:178, 179).

Does Islam allow us to take revenge from that person who gives so many harms to us?

Please refer to my answer to your last question.

Is there any authentic ḥadīth and Qur’ānic verse present which allows us to take revenge?

This too has already been answered above.
