Question

My question is if we get to know during the fifth month of pregnancy that the baby is abnormal and the condition is serious can we terminate the foetus? What does Islam says about abortion? Kindly respond to my question as soon as possible because it is a burning issue in our home.

Answer

Islam clearly and unequivocally declares that taking life of a human being is a grave sin. We cannot, therefore, take a life God plans to live. God puts all of us in test and trial in this life. We are not supposed to act more wisely and pose to be more merciful. A foetus aging five months is almost a complete human being and cannot be terminated.
