Untimely Deaths

Question

My mother passed away in March 2010 in a road accident. I my father suffered a heart attack and departed me in May 2011. These incidents have left me a bitter victim of hopeless, disparity and disappointment. I find myself always praying to God to end my life as soon as possible. My question from you is: Isn’t it injustice from God to take the parents from children at a time when they have grown up? The parents have spent all their pleasures and income on their children for these days. Why do they depart when they should be reaping the benefit of their labor and love? Can I meet my parents in the next world?

Answer

Yes indeed you will able to meet your parents if both you and your parents earn Paradise as a reward of your deeds. I am presenting below an excerpt from Amin Ahsan Islahi’s tafsir of a relevant verse of Surah Tur. It will explain the matter further:

وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَاتَّبَعَتْهُمْ ذُرِّيَّتُهُمْ بِإِيمَانٍ أَلْحَقْنَا بِهِمْ ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْ وَمَا أَلَتْنَاهُمْ مِنْ عَمَلِهِمْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ كُلُّ امْرِئٍ بِمَا كَسَبَ رَهِينٌ

And those who had accepted faith, and their children had followed them in their faith, We shall unite their children with them and not diminish the reward of their deeds. (Q 52:21)

Among the many things which the Almighty will grant the believers in Paradise to perfect these favours is the news that those among their children who followed their parents in faith will be joined to them there even though they would not be entitled to this viz a viz their faith and deeds. For this union, the principle stated in this verse is: وَمَا أَلَتْنَاهُمْ مِنْ عَمَلِهِمْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ: Children having a lower level of faith will be upgraded to the status of the parents without reducing the latter’s status. In other words, the parents will remain on the status to which they were entitled because of their faith and deeds; the Almighty out of His grace will raise the status of their children.
The word إِيمَانin وَاتَّبَعَتْهُمْ ذُرِّيَّتُهُمْ بِإِيمَانٍshows that this concession is reserved only for those children who followed their parents while professing faith. If they are devoid of faith, they will not be entitled to this concession even though they may vehemently claim to have followed the parents.

Since the word إِيمَان(faith) occurs as an undefined noun, it is evident that it has levels. If children occupy a level in Paradise reserved for the very lowest in faith, even then they will be entitled to this concession.
