If the witr<\/em> is tahujjud<\/em> prayer, as you hold, then why do we offer it with isha<\/em> and can you please tell me the method of offering it? Is it three raka\u2019at<\/em> with dua-i qunoot<\/em> in the third raka\u2019ah<\/em>? If one misses isha<\/em> prayer for some reason then does he have to make qaza<\/em> (delayer performance) of witr<\/em> like we do for obligatory prayer? <\/p>\n

Answer<\/h3>\n

Since witr<\/em> is part of tahajjud<\/em> prayer it is necessary for those who start offering tahajjud<\/em> during the night. Those who offer it with isha<\/em> indeed follow the views of the jurists who take it to be second to fard<\/em> (obligatory). <\/p>\n

We believe that the Prophet (sws) allowed those who could not get up during the late night especially during Ramadan to offer tahajjud<\/em> before going to sleep. This relaxation was later on taken as general ruling. For method of offering the witr<\/em> please go through the article: Optional Prayer<\/a><\/p>\n
