She is keen on the <em>nikah<\/em> but is delaying the <em>mahr<\/em>. We are planning for the two families of ours to meet each other for the <em>nikah<\/em> but she is placing a lot of emphasis on the <em>Waleemah nikah<\/em> when she will announce the <em>mahr<\/em> after which she wants the marriage to be consummated. Is this allowed for her to delay the announcement of the <em>mahr<\/em> to me in order to postpone consummation?<\/p>\n<h3>Answer<\/h3>\n<p>The Holy Qur&#8217;an expressly allows delay in defining the <em>mahr<\/em> amount. However, it does not restrict the couple to enter into sexual relations before deciding the amount of <em>mahr<\/em>. <em>Mahr<\/em> can be decided later on but marriage can be consummated earlier.
