Question
Mr. Ghamidi is a very good and competent scholar. I need his advice about the importance from the point of view of being a Muslim for my daughter to convince her to get married as she has now high education and a good job. She thinks that all men are bad and don’t want to get married to become a slave.
Answer
The Almighty says in the Qur’an:
And among His Signs is that He created for you mates from among your species that you may obtain comfort from them, and [for this purpose], He has put love and sympathy within you; surely, in this are signs for those who reflect.” (Q. 30:21)
One who acts in accordance to my Sunnah (way) is from me, and among my Sunnah is Marriage. (Musnad Abi Ya’la No: 5:133)
As for avoiding marriage to avoid being slave, if this is the real reason why your daughter does not want to marry, then my suggestion is simply to look around to see how diverse people and their attitudes are. It seems like a more reasonable strategy should be to look carefully and cautiously for a sole mate rather than to stop looking. We should not erase a problem, we should solve it.
