What is your opinion about milaad (Celebrating the Prophet’s (sws) Birthday)?
Answer
There is no objection to a gathering celebrating the Prophet’s (sws) life and character and promoting good. However, a lot of heresy is associated with such gatherings in our society. For example the baseless belief that the Prophet (sws) is present among us is ther there in the mind of the participants in such gatherings. This has no basis in the Qur’an or the Hadith. This is unacceptable. Any association or ascription to the Prophet (sws) should be based on sound sources. Any inaccuracy is a breach of the respect due with reference to him. He himself stated that whosoever ascribed a lie to him, would find his abode in Hell. The only objection to these gatherings is the dispersion of fables, myths and unsound Hadiths. Otherwise, what could be better than celebrating the Prophet’s (sws) life!
