Makkan · 8 verses · 2 passages · paired with Sūrah al-Qāri‘ah

This sūrah forms a pair with Sūrah al-Qāri‘ah; the introduction covering both is on that page.

In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Ever-Merciful.

The greed for abundance and for outdoing others in this made you heedless until you reached the graves. [No! This is nothing, O People!] Nothing indeed! You shall soon come to know! Listen again, [this is nothing,] nothing indeed! You shall soon come to know!

You would never have been heedless of it like this; never indeed, had you known that you are bound to see the fire of Hell; then known that you would observe it by the certainty of sight. Then you would certainly be questioned about all the favours of the world on that day.
