Sūrah 64
Sūrah al-Taghābun
This sūrah forms a pair with Sūrah al-Munāfiqūn; the introduction covering both is on that page.
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Ever-Merciful.
Every object of the heavens and the earth glorifies God. His only is the sovereignty; He alone is worthy of gratitude, and He has power over everything.
It is He Who created you: then some of you are disbelievers, and some are believers. And God is watching all that you do. He has created the heavens and the earth with a purpose, and fashioned you; so fashioned you very well, and [at last] to Him is the return. He knows all that is in the heavens and the earth. He knows what you conceal and what you reveal, and God is even aware of the secrets of the hearts.
Have you not heard of the account of those who rejected [these facts] before this; so, they tasted the fruit of their deeds [in this very world,] and for them is a grievous punishment ahead. This happened because their messengers continued to come to them with veritable signs but they said to them: “Will mortals guide us?” In this manner, they refused to believe and turned away, and as a result God also [according to His established practice] became indifferent to them, and God is self-sufficient and has all worthy attributes.
These disbelievers [of yours] have also emphatically claimed that they shall never be raised to life after death. Tell them: Why not! By my Lord, you shall certainly be raised to life! Then you shall definitely be told what you had done [in this world]. And this is very easy for God. For this reason, believe in God and in His Messenger and in the light that We have revealed, and [beware that] God has knowledge of all what you do.
Remember the day when for the Day of Gathering He will gather you. That shall, in fact, be the day of victory and defeat. And those who have professed faith in God and have done righteous deeds, He will brush away their sins from them on that day and will admit them to gardens below which streams flow. They will abide therein forever. Supreme success, in fact, is this. And those who disbelieved and denied Our revelations, they will be the inmates of the Fire. They will abide in it forever, and very evil is that abode.
[Believers! As soon as a misfortune strikes you, being influenced by them, you inflict yourselves with doubt. Bear in mind that] no misfortune befalls except by God’s permission. And those who believe in God, God guides their hearts [on such occasions], and God has knowledge of all things. [Understand this reality] and obey God and His Messenger. Then if you turn away, Our Messenger’s responsibility is only to clearly communicate. [Bear in mind that] God is He such that there is no deity except Him, and in God should the believers put their trust.
Believers! Some among your wives and children are your enemies. So, beware of them. [However, no need to be stern with them because] if you forgive them, overlook their blemishes and pardon them, then this is better because God is Forgiving and Merciful. Your wealth and your children are only a trial, and with God lies a great reward. So, keep fearing God as much as you can, and listen and show obedience and spend for your own good. And [remember that] those who abstained from the stinginess of the heart shall surely succeed. If you lend to God a good loan, He will increase it manifold for you and will forgive you. God is the Most Appreciative, the Most Forbearing. He has knowledge of the known and the unknown; the Mighty and the Wise.
