Sūrah 82

Sūrah al-Infiṭār

Makkan · 19 verses · 5 passages · paired with Sūrah al-Takwīr

This sūrah forms a pair with Sūrah al-Takwīr; the introduction covering both is on that page.

In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Ever-Merciful.

When the sky is rent asunder, when the stars are scattered, when the seas burst forth, when the graves are opened, at that time each one [of you O People] will come to know what he has sent forward and what he has left behind.

O Human Being! [You do not believe in this reality? Strange indeed!] What has deceived you regarding your Beneficent Lord? He Who created you, then perfected you, then gave you due proportion such that He put you together in whatever shape He pleased.

Certainly not! [Whatever you say about that day is baseless;] in fact, [in reality,] you want to deny reward and punishment, whereas appointed over you are guardians, very noble scribes; they know what you do.

[On that day,] the righteous shall surely dwell in bliss and the wicked ones shall surely be in Hell; they will enter it on the Day of Reward and Punishment such that they will never be able to escape from it.

What do you understand of that Day of Reward and Punishment? Speak up: What do you understand of that Day of Reward and Punishment? On that day, no soul will be able to do anything for another. The matter, on that day, will entirely be in the hands of God.
